Seasonally we notice a big shift in the background colours people select. These days we’ve been having people pick a lot of darker colours. Our reasoning? We’re all so aware of the fact it’s still in winter at this point, and psychologically it’s making our mood more sensitive to bright colours. Despite this very natural urge, don’t forget to still incorporate a bit of warmth in your photo, either by smiling your way through the season or wearing some purple or red in your outfit to balance out the mood. Here’s a great example of how to achieve just that while still remaining very cool and collected in your business portrait.

To add a twist to your business portrait, these days we’ve been experimenting with cropping the final edited images more, giving you multiple variations to choose from. This crop is usually what we do for acting portraits to accentuate the face place asymmetrically framing it. Although it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you are more of a traditionalist,, we do believe it livens the photo and is a worthy option to have in case you end up needing the image to sway slightly more casual and approachable. It’s been long time brewing about the idea of purchasing a blue backdrop. The issue we had was that the only dark blue shade available at our local camera store appeared too vivid at first glance. With no other options to pick from, we eventually decided to take the plunge and splurge on the navy. True to our expectations, we were quite right in that the colour being far too saturated. Thankfully with a bit of masking, we were able to tone it down in photoshop to get it to the ideal shade we had always dreamed of!
