There are several advantages to booking a personal photoshoot for your graduation as opposed to going with the traditional school-provided option. Although we don’t offer a grad-specific package, you can always book any of the packages based on your needs (feel free to even combine styles like portrait + grad, or business + grad!)

The most obvious difference if you book your shoot with us would be the luxury of time. You are capturing an unforgettable moment in your life—so why wouldn’t you take your time? The disadvantage of school photographers is that they tend to speed through the shoot due to a queue of students waiting. Rushed headshots may end up feeling more clinical than personal.

Want to try a couple of shots with your friends or family? Or even one without the gown and cap? No problem! We always encourage outfit changes as long as time permits. Basic grad gown/cap rental available for an additional fee.

Sometimes when deciding what to wear for your business headshot, it’s not so much a matter of picking the right color, as much as it is about picking the right fabric. In this example, instead of a simple blue and white ensemble, the client wore a finely patterned top, and a textured blazer. 

This adds a layer of character while allowing the eyes to remain softly focused on the subject. Since there are usually some limitations when it comes to the colours you can wear for a professional portrait, you can play up texture in your outfits to match your personality instead!

The most common question we get is what to wear, but little do we think that our hair is one of the more important elements to a good photo beside our facial expression.

Hair is emotional and evokes an expression entirely on its own. If the smile in your headshot is warm, natural, and friendly, you should aim for the hair to be the same. Therefore it’s usually not a good idea to have it tied back but rather let it lay naturally.

However, as with anything, there are always exceptions to the rule. In this exceptional example, our client had nicely textured layers that evoke the same organic emotion as would if it were hair down. For this reason, the hair being up becomes a viable option for a professional and clean real estate headshot.

We often have clients asking us what they should wear for their headshot, or more specifically, what colours they should wear. Although colour is going to be one of the biggest factors when it comes to determining whether or not a piece of clothing is flattering, it is also crucial to consider playing with other visual aspects on your quest for a perfectly flattering outfit.

Shape (or silhouette), as well as texture (or fabric), are two other key elements that speak volumes in terms of visual communication.

This business portrait is a perfect example of our client demonstrating all three c’s—colour, cut, and cloth. The fitted suit evokes professionalism through a clean silhouette, a soft blue soothes the emotions, and shimmery fabrics add a bit of light and life!

Since school photographers see many students in a short amount of time, it might not always be enough for you to feel comfortable to get a natural expression.

Book any one of your packages for your grad portraits and take as much time as you need to get things right.

Our team makes sure all the details are taken care of, including providing a way array of sashes to choose from as well as a couple gown rental options (additional $25 for graduation cap and gown rentals).

If your company is interested in headshots but are looking for something a little different than what your competitors have, we encourage you to get creative and send our team any references/inspiration !

For this particular photoshoot, we applied a heavier dose of colour to create a “film-like” feeling and provoke more of an emotional response. By layering a marbled fabric on top our basic set table, we were able to create a custom desk. The soft texture makes for a lively image without the subject having to pose too much, creating a balance between conservative and characteristic.

Take time to celebrate your big day by booking a private graduation photoshoot session ! Grad portraits can either be shot against our simple studio backgrounds, outdoors, or against one of our beautiful hand painted canvases for a little character (shown above).

Come with your own gown and cap, or borrow one of ours for an additional $25 (available in: shimmery blue, shimmery dark blue, shimmery black, and matte black). Although we don’t currently offer a graduation package, feel free to book whichever option suits you best.

With no restriction on the type of looks you can try, mix and match casual shots with your graduation photos, or even include your family in some of the shots !
