This year we are introducing our latest service, background clipping. Shooting against a white background, gives us the flexibility to do what most people have seen before only in films with a “green screen.” In photography we call this background masking, or clipping.

Simply think of it as a shortcut for you to get all the benefits of shooting environmentally on location, with out leaving the private and cozy studio. Please refer to our main page for more details and examples !

For all of our photoshoots, you have the option of sticking with the traditional literal headshot, or a 3/4 portrait. In our experience, there is nothing scarier than the sight of your own face close up.

The great thing about shooting 3/4 is it allows for more breathability, and if needed, it can always be cropped to a headshot style later on. Just make sure that when you are preparing your wardrobe for your headshot, to come with business on the top and on the bottom!

Though you would never be able to tell, this corporate portrait was taken location at an office along King Street. A quick Uber ride over and in 15 mins we were at the space, building our makeshift set for the day.

We always estimate about 10 mins per person, but the truth is it all depends on your staff’s willingness to get a great headshot ! Dont let the trauma of adolescence photo day get in the way of your adult portrait day. We’ve noticed when peoples nerves are calm, they are more likely to get a better expression and walk away with a photo they can enjoy and use for years to come.

The other week, we had the opportunity to stray from our day to day Linkedin portrait and model portrait, to a slightly different breed—the personal portrait.

With some references images in hand, send them over via email and you can customize your photoshoot with us. Request a specific size, pose, or go all out and come with a particular lighting set up in mind ! For this recent shoot, we customized the colour grading to replicate a vintage effect from a reference our client had sent as inspiration.

Our cozy studio is located in Corktown, in the quieter east edge of the city, and only 10 mins east of Yonge and Dundas via the TTC. The building already has character that we can conveniently use as an accent for the background of your headshot.

This particular client wanted to look bright and energetic in her portrait, so she wore a white shirt with a v cut to make the silhouette more breathable and light.

Straight on headshots are not just for passport photos ! It may seem boring for a professional portrait. In our opinion, the reason why most people don’t like (or like) straight on shots is because its too symmetrical and much like a passport photo—kind of robotic!

To counter the bland body silhouette, we practice creative cropping. It mixes up the energy and adds some liveliness into the shot. What do you think of the final result?
